There are tons of choices for a cat litter box on the market today. The cat litter boxes
range from very expensive to very cheap and sometimes even free. The stores stock some
cheap solutions as well as very expensive solutions that can possibly meet your needs.
If you are so inclined, you can also use an old dishpan or cardboard box as a cat litter box.
Cardboard Cat Litter Boxes
The disposable or throw-away cardboard cat litter box may be an excellent choice depending
on your needs. The disposable cat litter box is often used to get rid of waste products by
animal shelters, pet stores and some cat breeders. Even though the disposable cat litter box
is inexpensive it is unlikely to be a good solution in the longer term. You might want to opt
for a more sturdy solution that is likely to last for a longer period of time.
Plastic Cat Litter Box Pans
There is a huge variety in the stores of plastic cat litter boxes. You can choose from many
different sizes and shapes that would best meet the needs of your cat and you. Pet supply
stores carry many different inexpensive litter boxes. Models include both deep and shallow
boxes. Make certain you check to see how easy it is to clean the cat litter box before you
buy. The disposable cardboard litter box may be a better choice if you are constantly throwing
the plastic version that can’t be properly cleaned.
Covered Cat Litter Box Pans
The manufacturers of covered litter box pans usually claim that the cover will reduce the
waste odors and restrict other small pets or children from getting into the pan’s contents.
This may be a true statement depending on the litter box but this leads to another problem.
Because they can’t detect the odor, many cat owners forget to clean the litter box as often
as necessary. The owner is not usually upset but the cat does not like to use a dirty litter
box. The owner must clean the covered box on a frequent basis.
Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Boxes
As we all know, it is not a pleasurable event for the cat’s owner to clean a litter box.
This is where the self-cleaning box comes into popularity. The manufacturers of litter boxes
have recently developed an almost hands-free solution. Some of the self-cleaning litter boxes
have an insert which is removed and then put in the trash and a new insert put in it’s place.
Another method is to use a collector which is rolled over the cat’s waste products and dumped
in the trash. More litter box granules can be added, if necessary, after the collector is
removed.
